I have heard folks tell of their childhood days when their parents would invite the pastor or visiting preachers to their home for lunch (or to spend the night). Often they were in small communities and this was the only way to provide overnight care - just invite them to come home with you. It was commonplace. This kind of hospitality is still practiced by some, but it has become a rare expression of hospitality.
