Minden goes unbeaten in tourney

Crimson Tide beats Bastrop, 3-2, and Natchitoches-Central, 6-4

The Minden Crimson Tide closed out their Minden High Invitational with a pair of wins Friday and Saturday.

The Tide battled their opponents and a bitter cold in beating Bastrop, 3-2, and Natchitoches-Central, 6-4.

Against Bastrop on Friday, Chase Toland started on the mound for the Tide and pitched well.

After pitching the first 5 2/3 innings, Toland began to tire due to his pitch count and was replace by Caleb Jones. Jones pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to get his second win (2-0) of the year.

The Tide scored first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Hutton Leppert led off the inning with a double. Marshal Frye would run for Leppert and later score on an RBI-single by Mikey James. Corey DeMoss, who reached on catcher-interference, would also score.

The Tide added their final run in the bottom of the sixth when Carson Bolyer reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a DeMoss single.

McCaul Lacobee went two-for-three and Hutton Leppert and Carson Bolyer both doubled to lead the offense. Mikey James had a single and two RBIs and Corey DeMoss had an RBI-single. Scott Stevens added a single.

Against Natchitoches, Bolyer pitched five strong innings to get the win. Jones again entered in relief and pitched the final two innings, striking out three, for the save.

The Tide scored four runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the bottom of the fourth.

In the fourth, with the bases loaded, the Tide scored a run as a walk forced in a run, another run scored on a passed ball, another on a catcher's error and the final one on a RBI-groundout by Lacobee.

In the sixth, Thomas Pevy had an RBI-single and he later scored on an error by the Natchitoches shortstop.

Turner Francis led the offense with a three-for-three day at the plate. Pevy had an RBI-single, and Bolyer and James both added base hits.

The Crimson Tide will be back in action Tuesday with a game at Lakeside, and then will finish out the week at the Lakeside Tournament.
