"Holiday or seasonal depression is unusually deep sadness that begins around Thanksgiving and lasts through the first of the year," Licensed Professional Counselor Nancy Tracy said. "Other symptoms include irritability, guilt, low self-esteem, discouragement, loss of motivation, and poor self-image."
Sufferers can begin a feedback loop, where the depression itself becomes a source of worsened depression. According to Tracy, it is useful to recognize the depression for what it is.
