Program raises child safety awareness

Program raises child safety awareness

Think of four girls or six boys you know. Now guess which one will be sexually abused before the age of 18.

There will be a program Thursday, June 21 to help raise awareness of the prevalence and consequences of child sexual abuse by educating adults about the steps they can take to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to the reality of child sexual abuse.

Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children training will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Grace Community Church at 9400 Ellerbe Road in Shreveport. The class will be held in the upper room of the main building.

The training is designed for organizations that serve youth and for individuals concerned about the safety of children.

The cost is free for Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers; however, there is a cost of $15 for the public to cover the cost of the materials presented at the training.

Three hours of CEU's are available for counselors and social workers. Log onto Darkness 2 Light website at www.d2l.org for more information.

To register for the training call Vickie Ricord at 518-0395, 425-4413 or email her at vickie.ricord@vyjla.org.

Pre-registration is required to attend.

Any church or organization interested in hosting a class locally, may contact Ricord at the above numbers or email address.
