House votes to ban smoking close to state buildings

BATON ROUGE (AP) — The House voted 84-11 Wednesday for a proposal that would ban smoking within 25 feet of the entrance to state-owned office buildings.

Rep. Frank Hoffmann, R-West Monroe, said he's seeking the prohibition to cut down on the risks of secondhand smoke. He proposed a similar idea last year, but the measure was rejected by the state Senate.
