The Glenbrook Apaches were back on the practice field this week as they continue to prepare for their 2011 football season.
Head coach Ryan Porter is anxious to get the season started and has been pleased with the work his team has done so far during practices.
"Things have been going good," he said. "We've been working hard and trying to get ready for the jamboree and our first game next week."
And the Apaches will take another step in that direction as they host a five-team jamboree on Friday.
Teams from Glenbrook, Claiborne Academy, Cenla Christian, Riverdale and Union Christian will take part.
"The jamborees are a good way for schools to get the kids into game-shape before the first game," Porter said. "We'll start at 6 p.m. and each game will be two 15-minute quarters."
Union Christian and Cenla's B team will kick off the night at 6 p.m., and Claiborne Academy and Riverdale will follow at 7 p.m. Glenbrook and Cenla's A team will cap off the evening at 8 p.m.
"Playing at 8 p.m., hopefully the heat won't be so bad," joked Porter. "But we started preparing for this heat back on June 1st. Having the kids lifting and running four days a week, being out in it during the 7 on 7 practices and games, has gotten the kids used to it. Yea, it's hot, but our kids are conditioned to it."
Back to School Night
In addition to Friday's Jamboree, Glenbrook will be hosting their annual 'Back to School Night' this evening at 5 p.m.
The school invites everyone to come out and join in the fun and get to know your fellow students, parents and teachers.
Meet the Apaches (Varsity and JV Football), Lady Apaches (Softball), Sundancers and Cheerleaders (with performances by the mini-cheer campers).
"We'll have hot dogs, sausage dogs, watermelon and home-made ice cream along with tea, soft drinks, water, lemonade, and Kool-Aid to keep you cooled down," said Glenbrook Booster Club President Greg Clark.
