Remember this poem ( Edwin Markham) we were required to read in high school(The Man and the Hoe)? It grew out of the Labor Movement and was written to affirm the role of the working force in America. Probably this kind of writing would not be as popular now as it was in 1899 when it was published. However, it might be good to reaffirm the importance of 'everyone having a job and being productive'. I have a little different twist to the poem though. I refer to it as "the old man and his hoe".
