Short Rows of Life

Last week I heard a senior adult say he was "living in the short rows of life". That has stuck in my mind for I know I am moving into them myself. I think we all know what this expression means as it relates to farming. (We have covered the long rows and now we are in the corner of the field where the short rows are. And when we finish the short rows, we have finished for good....).
