An anticipated 800-plus school-age children will walk through the doors of the Minden Civic Center Monday and walk out ready for school to start.
From 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. August 4, the sixth annual Back to School Bash, sponsored by Webster Parish School Board and ConocoPhillips, will offer plenty of free items and services including school supplies, haircuts, sack lunches, T-shirts for the first 300 students and refreshments.
"There will be vendors that make the going-back-to-school process easy," Ursula Hullaby, Bash coordinator said. "Each school will be represented. They won't be able to register there, but if they have any questions or concerns about school, there will be someone to answer."
Every student who comes to the Bash will receive a raffle ticket, Hullaby said. Raffle items include bicycles, school uniforms, gift certificates and electronic tablets.
"They will get another ticket that's like a business card ticket, and they will have to visit three vendors' tables, one of which will be their school table," she said. "As they go around to those tables, they will get a hole punched."
Many attendees will stay for the entire event, Hullaby said.
"There's something to do in there all day," she said. "They will be waiting for the raffle. It's a big deal. It's a fun day for them."
