Summer isn't over just yet, but the Glenbrook Lady Apache Softball team will begin its 2014 season today.
The Lady Apaches will take part in the annual Riverfield Tournament in Rayville.
Head Coach Jonathan Hardy is eager to get the season underway.
"So far the girls have put in a lot of effort," Hardy said. "Our seniors are Jessica Mangrum, Katie Kidd, and Gracyn Gorman. Those girls, as well as Carsin Spurlock at catcher, are the girls we're going to lean on."
Even with a talented team and an experienced group of seniors, the Lady Apaches will have to earn their way back into the playoffs in a district that's always competitive.
It's always a tough district to win," Hardy said. "Riverfield is always good. Last year they won the district, but we beat them once during the season. Prarie View will also be very good this year. I feel like all of us could beat each other at any time."
Hardy believes the Lady Apaches can win the district if they keep showing the same effort, while continuing to work on the little things.
"We still have things we can improve on. We need to communicate better on the field, but with the effort the girls are showing, I think we'll play our best," Hardy said.
The Lady Apaches will take on Tensas Academy today at 3 p.m. in the Riverfield Tournament.
