What began as a shoplifting call at Stage department store ended in a drug arrest when a number of prescription drugs were found in the possession of a Benton woman.
Minden Chief of Police Steve Cropper said 26-year-old Taylor Agee, who lives in the 900 block of Old Plain Dealing Road in Benton, was booked at police headquarters Friday on three separate drug charges.
Agee is charged with two counts of possession of legend drugs, possession of CDS Sch. II (adderall) and possession of CDS Sch. IV (xanax), Cropper said. The chief said the retail store opted to not press theft charges relating to the shoplifting allegation.
"Officer Russell Engi responded to a call in reference to a shoplifter and while questioning the suspect, noticed her speech was very slurred and that she was very slow in forming her sentences," Cropper said. "He did not detect the odor of alcoholic beverages, so he asked if she was under the influence of any other substance."
Cropper said Agee admitted to Engi she had taken xanax, and that she was in possession of other pills. In addition to 10 xanax, Cropper said Agee had adderall, hydroxyzine and buprenorphine pills in a small bottle located in her back pocket.
"She said she did not have prescriptions for the xanax or adderall, but did for the other pills. She did not have the prescriptions on her person, so there was no proof she had them for any of the narcotics," Cropper said.
Cropper said Agee told the arresting officer she had a prior arrest in Bossier City for possession of CDS Sch. III.
