On Jan. 16, 1921, a beautiful baby girl named Ida B was born to the Rev. George Pearson and Jessie Pearl McDaniel. She was the second child of the three siblings.
Ida attended Bell Mill School in Doyline. At an early age, she united with St. Mark Baptist Church.
On March 3, 1937, Ida Pearson and Walter Gilbert gave birth to a beautiful daughter whom they named Alice Faye Gilbert.
Ida, always being curious and adventurous, moved to Columbia and later to the big city of Detroit where in 1946 she was blessed with a job as well as a husband, Mr. Willie Jones. Mr. Jones was a widower and was raising five children, Alberta (17), Alfred (15), Willie, Jr. (13), Rosa Lee (11) and Gloria (8). The family adjusted and enjoyed a Christian life and was active at the Leland Missionary Baptist Church.
Ida's love for her family in Louisiana never ceased and she would visit her mother, daughter Alice Faye, grandchildren and sibilings as often as possible.
Ida B. Jones departed this earthly on July 4, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Alberta; granddaughter, Jerrianne; brother, Ben Allen; and son-in-law, O. D. Fuller.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories five generations of loved ones including three daughters, Alice Faye Fuller, Rosa Lee Wilkins (Stanley) and Gloria Beal; two sons, Alfred Jones and Willie Jones; sisters, Sallie Lee Smith; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Services for Ida B. Jones will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014, at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Smith, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mark Cemetery.
