A job description for Minden’s new economic development director is up for approval today by the Minden City Council.
The council met recently in a workshop environment to discuss a job description, as well as the qualifications they would like to see in someone who will take the local economy to a new level.
The city’s personnel committee summarized the description by saying the person hired “will direct economic development activities for the City of Minden in order to promote business, industrial and job development and civic improvements by performing (the following) duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.”
The description lists 17 essential duties and responsibilities that implement directives outlined in Minden’s Economic Development Strategic Plan.
Assuming the entire council is sold on economic development, Mayor Tommy Davis said a person in that position would provide a boost to the economy.
“We’re not ready to zero in on the person,” Davis said. “We want to zero in on the job description first.”
Once a plan and the job description are in place, the council will be tasked with finding money in its budget to cover the position.
The Minden City Council meets at 7 p.m. in council chambers at Minden City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
