Multiple counts of theft have been filed against a Minden woman for allegedly stealing cash and business records from her local employer.
Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton said 41-year-old Erin B. Maness of the 1400 block of Lewisville Road in Minden is currently being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on $48,000 in bonds.
Maness is charged with one count of felony theft over $12,000 and 28 counts of theft of business records, Sexton said. The sheriff said the business records were state certificates which potentially could be valuable.
"The company performed an internal audit and found the losses. They provided us with the information uncovered by the audit and we arrested the suspect Wednesday morning," Sexton said.
Maness had been taking checks and cash intended for her employer for more than a year, Sexton said. The thefts reportedly occurred from January 2013 through April of this year. She had been employed at the business a little over a year and a half, the sheriff said.
"She would have customers make checks for the business services payable to her and if someone paid in cash, she would divert that for herself," the sheriff explained. "She has not told us why she was taking the money or what she was doing with it. We're still investigating to determine exactly how much was taken."
