Time is running out to purchase raffle tickets to win a great prize and help a great cause.
Thursday is the final day Minden Charity Classic officials will be able to sell $5 raffle tickets for a Taurus "The Judge" handgun and a $500 Bon Temps/Valero Gift Card. The drawing will take place on Friday during the Minden Charity Classic auction at Pine Hills Country Club. Ticket holders do not have to be present to win.
"There will be two separate drawings; however, the winner of 'The Judge' will be put back into the hopper for the Bon Temps gift card and could feasibly win both prizes," MCC board member and auction chair Robbie Wilson said.
"The Judge" is a five shot revolver designed and produced by Taurus International, chambered for .410 bore shot shells and the .45 Colt cartridges. Taurus promotes the gun as a self-defense tool against carjacking and for home protection.
Wilson said raffle tickets are going fast and they are being sold at several locations in town including Rocking Rooster, Bon Temps, Harper Motors, Wilson Starter and Alternator, Wimberly Agency, Al-N-Way Cleaners and AJ Price.
Minden Charity Classic, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to maintain a fund to provide charitable assistance, within the Minden area, is celebrating a decade helping those with needs not specifically met by existing charities.
"Since our inception in 2004, the organization has distributed $303,476 to 204 families/individuals, some at the lowest point in their lives," Wilson said. "Needs met have ranged from house fires to catastrophic illnesses to other life-changing events."
Only 1,500 tickets will be sold. Anyone who cannot locate a ticket or would like to make an individual donation, call 377-4121 to leave a name and number.
This year's golf tournament will take place at Pine Hills in Minden and the Homer Golf Club. All teams will play at both courses and flights will determine the time and day. Social events on Friday night will include cocktails, dinner, auction and dance. All tournament information can be accessed from the Minden Charity Classic link on the MBL website www.mblbank.com.
