Street fight turns into drug bust

ivoryMinden police officers responding to a reported fight at a city street intersection Friday night emerged from the call with a drug bust.

Chief of Police Steve Cropper said his officers arrived at the corner of Miller Street and Bayou Avenue and attempted to stop a vehicle that was in the roadway.

"At first, the driver was hesitant to stop. When we made contact with the driver and opened the door to the vehicle, our officer saw an open alcoholic beverage container spilled in the driver's side floorboard," Cropper said.

The driver, 34-year-old Erik Lamont Ivory, a resident of the 100 block of Squire St., was detained for the open container charge, Cropper said. A search of the suspect led to additional charges, the chief added.

"Our officer searched Mr. Ivory subsequent to his arrest for the open container and found a small baggie of white power substance in his wallet. The substance field tested positive for cocaine," Cropper said.

Also in the vehicle with the suspect was his eight-year-old son, the chief said.

Ivory is charged with violation of the open container ordinance, possession of CDS Sch. II (powder cocaine), possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a CDS in the presence of a minor.
