If a workman is often known by the tools of his trade, a thief can also be recognized by the tools he sells.
Frederick Kendrail Kelly, 28, a resident of Pine Hills Trailer Park on Homer Rd., is currently sitting in jail charged with two counts of simple burglary after investigators nabbed him for the reported theft of approximately $3,000 worth of tools from a parish auto salvage business.
Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton said Kelly admitted to investigators that he went to the place of business on two separate occasions and removed a large quantity of tools.
The sheriff said Kelly had originally gone to the place of business with other individuals who had taken a car there. None of the others were suspects in the thefts, Sexton said.
"He stated that he acted alone and entered the premises twice and stole tools on both trips there," Sexton said.
Sexton said many of the stolen items were discovered and recovered from a local pawn shop where they had been sold. Some of the more expensive tools have not been located, the sheriff said.
Kelly currently is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center under a $20,000 bond. He is also being held on a probation and parole warrant from the Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office.
