Fannie Mae Turner was born Nov. 25, 1927, one of four daughters born to Henry and Lillie Lee Thompson, in Dubberly. Her youngest sister died in infancy. Fannie and her sisters, Juanita and Olivia, grew up in a Christian home and were baptized in the creek beside Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
When Fannie was about 12 years old, her parents decided to follow job opportunities in the North and advance their children's education. They departed beloved Dubberly and settled in Chicago Ill. Fannie attended Wendell Phillips High school, a historically black school on Chicago's south side.Subscribe to Read!
