You might get your kicks on Route 66, but you can get your shopping done on U.S. Highway 80 because for two days this week, 392 of the 2,400 miles of pavement will be more than just a throughway as it becomes the first-ever, multi-state shopping event.
The Historic Highway 80 Sale will be held Friday and Saturday with downtowns along U.S. Hwy. 80 participating in sidewalk sales and weekend bargains. Minden's event also includes a downtown car show and the kick off of the summer farmers' market at The Farm.
"Minden wanted to get on board and be a part of this great sale that crosses five states — Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia," Main Street director Pattie Odom said.
Local participants include H&M Antiques and Collectibles, Finders Keepers, the Wood Shack, Mamie Belle's Flea Market, Heavenly Treasures, Second Hand Rose Antiques, Timeless Cafe" and Tearoom, Possibilities, the Vault, Antiques and Art on Main and Cottage Antiques.
"We have some great businesses along Highway 80 both east and west," Highway 80 Alliance president Stephanie Winzer said. "We are excited to participate in this sale."
