Next Saturday, August 6 a group of family and friends will get together to host the 11th Annual Sonny Rose Softball Tournament.
The tournament was started by friends of Rose who died in a car accident more than 10 years ago.
"Billy Reeve got this tournament started the first year, on the one field, at Victory Park with a handful teams," Casey Rose, Sonny's brother said. "Last year, at the Minden Recreation Complex, we had 23 teams playing on four fields. My family and I never dreamed that it would turn into this large of an event, that players and fans look forward to every year. I want to thank all of the teams and players for their continued support."
In addition to being a way to remember Rose, the tournament also has been a platform for raising money for various charities.
"For the past 10 years we have raised thousands of dollars for various charities in my brother's name," Casey Rose said. " This year the proceeds of this tournament will go to The Blake McKay Fight For Life Foundation. There is no better feeling than to help provide moments of peace and happiness for a terminally ill child."
