Thanks to DNA results, a 53-year-old Webster Parish man is behind bars and charged with aggravated rape for an attack on an elderly woman inside her Minden residence.
Minden Chief of Police Steve Cropper said Willie A. Mims, who lists an address on Trailer Park Dr. in Sibley, was arrested Tuesday without incident. Cropper said MPD detectives nabbed Mims when he reported to his probation officer.
Mims is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center under a $1 million bond.
Cropper said Mims is charged with an attack which occurred in the very early morning hours of Christmas Day, 2013. Cropper said the suspect confronted the woman, who is in her mid 60s, in the rear of her residence.
"He made physical threats and terrified the victim," Cropper said. "She was traumatized by the suspect and his threats and initially couldn't help us much, but finally managed to give our investigators a physical description."
Cropper said investigators obtained the clothing the victim was wearing at the time of the assault and forwarded it to the crime lab in Shreveport.
"We received the DNA results from COTUS (a national DNA database), contacted the district attorney and obtained an arrest warrant," Cropper said.
