DUBBERLY — A Central Middle School teacher miraculously escaped serious injury Wednesday when the SUV she was driving was struck by logs which spilled when a tractor-trailer rig overturned on La. Hwy. 531 south of Dubberly.
Stephanie Pitman, who teaches kindergarten, reportedly received minor injuries in the crash which occurred just after 4 p.m. She was transported by ambulance to Minden Medical Center.
A portion of one log penetrated the SUV's windshield while another log impaled the driver's side rear panel and destroyed the left rear tire.
The driver of the southbound log truck, David George, also received minor injuries.
Officers at the scene said the truck's load apparently shifted as it entered a curve at the intersection of Hwy. 531 and Coussins Road causing the rig to overturn.
The truck's tanks leaked oil and diesel onto the roadway and Dubberly volunteer firefighters were dispatched to the scene to spread oil spill absorbent.
