Nicole Rowton was always the friend with a camera, ready to capture the moment of whatever her group was getting into.
But it wasn't until 2009 when she took a picture of an oak tree at Rosedown Plantation in south Louisiana, she knew she had found her calling.
"After capturing this, I realized how much I love photography with a southern flair," the Minden native said.
After graduating from Louisiana Tech, Rowton moved to Dallas and interned with Legacy Studios. She brought her business, Southern Shutter
Photography, home to Minden.
"I believe there is a great value in documenting our lives and all things that make it worth living," Rowton said. "To me, our world is amazing, packed full of priceless moments in time, waiting for all of us to capture it in one way or another."
Rowton is one of 11 photographers featured in City Art Works' exhibit "The Art of Photography."
The exhibit will remain open through April 30. The gallery is located at 701 Main Street and is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The Press-Herald will feature two photographers each week through the duration of the show.
