DONALDSONVILLE-After bringing down the #1 team in Class 3A, an 81-76 win over John Curtis, the North Webster Knights' season came to an end Friday night with a 74-69 loss to Donaldsonville in the LHSAA Class 3A Quarterfinals.
The game was close throughout, but the #8 seeded Tigers proved to be too much for the #17 seed Knights. Donaldsonville will advance to the semifinals on Thursday against Richwood.
Last Wednesday, the Knights hosted the #1 seed, the John Curtis Patriots. The Knights had to withstand a barrage of three-pointers (11 in all) by the Patriots to get the 81-76 win.
Down, 42-35 early in the second half, North Webster went on an 11-2 run to take a 46-44 lead. All 11 Knight points were scored by Lyntravious Gipson. Later, North Webster led 78-70 with 1:35 left after a three-point play by Devin White capped a 21-12 Knights' run.
John Curtis followed that with back-to-back three-pointers to cut the lead to two, and then North Webster's Montavious Smith hit a free throw to push the lead back to three with 25 seconds left.
John Curtis missed their final two shots and the Knights' Gipson, who scored a game-high 28 points, added a lay-up to make the final score, 81-76.
North Webster ended the season with a 25-10 record.
