A Minden man may be wondering if boot camp would have been a better place to be than the cell he now occupies at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
Jeffrey Dewayne Clark, a 19-year-old who lives in the 100 block of Fuller St., was arrested last Thursday by Webster Parish Sheriff's Office investigators after he allegedly made arrangements to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex.
"He was supposed to be meeting the girl on the day we arrested him," Sheriff Gary Sexton said. "Under questioning, he confessed that he was meeting her to have sex."
Clark is charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile and computer aided solicitation of a minor. He reportedly is being held at BDCC on a $300,000 bond.
Sexton said detectives were conducting an investigation into an unrelated matter when they learned of Clark's activities.
"When our detectives checked into the information they had received, they made contact with Clark. He confessed to communicating with the girl through a popular website," Sexton said.
Detectives also learned that Clark and the girl had met on previous occasions where the two allegedly engaged in inappropriate activities.
"Our investigators were told the two did not engage in sex when they met previously," Sexton said.
Investigators learned Clark has a previous conviction for misdemeanor carnal knowledge, and a condition of his sentence was that he join the Marines, Sexton said.
"Obviously, he did not join the Marine Corps," the sheriff said.
Sexton said Clark's charge of indecent behavior with a juvenile carries a potential punishment of a $5,000 fine or a maximum of seven years in prison or both. If Clark should be convicted of computer solicitation of a minor, he could be looking at a $10,000 fine and a prison sentence of not less than five, nor more than 10 years without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
