Two Lakeside High School athletes earned individual State Championship titles this weekend. Chris Lewis won the Division II title in the 60-meter dash at the State
Indoor Track Championships in Baton Rouge, and Luke Griffith won the Division III 220 pound title at the State Wrestling Meet in Kenner.
Griffith pinned North Vermillion's Blake Bernard to take the title, one among six North Louisiana wrestlers to bring home titles.
Lewis had finished as the state runner-up the last three years in the 55 meters before blowing away the competition to win the title this year.
In the semi-finals, Lewis ran a 6.88 to post the fasted prelim time. In the finals he ran a personal-best time of 6.81. This was the first year the 60-meters was run,
meaning his time was also a Division II record. It was also faster than the Division I winning time of 6.84 by Sharkeith Beverly of Edna Karr.
The 6.81 mark also stands as the fourth-best time in the nation this year. Lewis' title added to the three outdoor individual sprint victories, giving Lewis four heading into
the outdoor season.
In the 3200 meter run, Lakeside's Eric Greene placed sixth running a 10:34.6. Cody Robinson ran a personal-best of 11:14 for an eighth-place finish.
The Warriors begin their outdoor season on Thursday, March 6 at Benton.
