Gamma Omicron Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity will hold a memorial service, at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at the church. The family will receive reflections, remarks and comments from friends following this service.
James was born July 1, 1938, in Minden to the parents of Mr. and Mrs. Jurue Sr. and Tessie Smith, along with four brothers. His parents and two brothers (Bobby and Jurue Jr.) preceded him in death. He was a beloved husband, wonderful father and grandfather, teacher, administrator and, most of all, deacon of his church.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Catherine; daughter, Carolyn Fernette and her husband, Rev. Willie C. Bryant; one granddaughter, ("Granddaddy's pride"), Tessa Cay Bryant; one brother, Lutellis Smith and his wife, Melissa; and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Lord has truly favored James. He has wined and dined with the richest and poorest of friends and he has met with the most prestigious and renowned dignitaries. He traveled and saw as much of the world that he wanted to see. He was well educated and he truly found peace in his home and with his family.
