The much-anticipated Webster Parish Council on Aging building may be opening its doors soon.
"We are planning to move if the fire marshal gives us the go ahead," said Executive Director Dathene Brown. "That is based on AT&T getting in there before the sixth. We plan on moving Thursday, February 6 and Friday, February 7 and that weekend. Our plans are to be opened Monday, February 10."
Weather setbacks have caused delays, along with discovery of an unknown sewer line from the school board office that was damaged during construction, however the project is in the final stages. Interior work is finished, while the fencing outside is being completed.
"It has been a long time coming, but it is going to be worth it," Brown said. "When we looked at the drawings before, we were impressed, but when we saw it (the building) in person, we were excited."
Brown commended the architect and said he did a great job.
The old COA building located on McIntyre Street is prone to flooding. COA staff and volunteers are looking forward to the completion of their new facilities on Sheppard Street.
Construction for the $1.86 million project has been completed by ELA Inc.
