The Minden High Lady Tiders dropped to 12-7 overall and 1-1 in district with a 57-53 home loss to Benton on Friday night.
It was a very good ball game," Lady Tider head coach Jacob Brown said. "Both teams played hard and it stayed a five-point game either way."
Benton jumped out early, but the Lady Tiders fought back.
"I thought after Benton's hot start, I thought our girls settled down and played well," Brown said. "We began to hit some shots and played good basketball."
The game was close, except for the third quarter where Benton out-scored the Lady Tiders, 13-4. Benton led 13-12 after one, but Minden came back and out-scored Benton 18-13 in the second quarter to take a 30-26 lead into halftime.
"We went on a 10-5 run to cut into their lead," Brown said. "We had two big three-pointers by Ja'Courtney Neloms and Tiaga Pugh. I thought we picked up our effort."
Benton followed up their big third quarter by out-scoring Minden 18-16 in the fourth to make the final 57-53.
"I really thought we were on the verge of building on our lead at the half," Brown said. "But we got into some foul trouble. We had a number of kids step up and do some good things.
Ja'Courtney Neloms led the Lady Tiders with 20 points and Tiaga Pugh scored 13 and had nine rebounds. Antavia Sterling dropped in eight points and Metosha Gill had nine points and five boards. Neloms added four three-pointers.
The Lady Tiders will host Fair Park Tuesday night at The Palace at Minden High.
