City sets Mardi Gras parade dates

Pattie Odom picEntries for the 17th annual Minden Mardi Gras parade will be accepted until January 31, with the parade and Fasching Karneval scheduled for February 15.

The parade, which is sponsored by Minden Main Street, is scheduled for 5 p.m. and traverses a 3.3 mile route beginning at Germantown Rd. and Elm St., through Minden's Historic District and returning to the point of origination.

"We are happy to offer the second annual Battle of the Bands at this year's parade," said Rene Simmons, parade chairperson.

Pattie Odom, Downtown Development Director, shares Simmons' enthusiasm.

"We will have the carnival and entertainment in downtown Minden beginning at 11 a.m.," Odom said. "Families are encouraged to set up along the route throughout downtown and enjoy picnics and parties prior to the parade."

Organizers are looking forward to a variety of parade entries.

"Families also are invited to participate in the parade by preparing family floats," Simmons said. "Organizations and churches are encouraged to also join in the fun by entering a float."

Entry forms should be submitted at Minden Main Street Office. To be permitted in the parade advance registration is required.

Entry forms are available at www.mindenfasching.com or at Minden City Hall. The entry forms have times, categories, directions and rules included.
