BENTON — The Lakeside Warriors built a big first half lead at Benton Tuesday night, but couldn't hold on as they lost 60-57 to the Tigers.
"It's kind of been the theme of our season," Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. "We're almost there. We're in the game, but we've had a hard time finishing games. It's just something we have to work on."
The Warriors jumped out to a 15-8 first quarter lead, then out-scored the Tigers, 20-11 in the second to take a 35-19 lead into halftime.
Benton came out on fire in the third quarter, out-scoring Lakeside, 17-9 and then took the fourth quarter, 22-13, making the final, 60-57.
"We outscored them by 16 in the first quarter," Gould said. "We had everything going for us. We were running our offense, playing good defense and we were really controlling the backboards. Benton made a run in the second half and out-scored us by 19. We made a lot of mental mistakes and allowed them to control the boards. They got on a roll and we fought them to the end, but we just couldn't pull it out."
Maurice Moore led the Warriors with 16 points and Frankie Miles scored 14 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. Jamarion Teal scored 10 points, Davion Whiting had seven and Jalen Gould had six.
Lady Warriors 35, Lady Tigers 53
The Lady Warriors trailed throughout and fell to Benton, 53-35.
Shanae Collins led the Lady Warriors with 20 points. C. McKinsey added seven points.
