BOSSIER —The Minden High Lady Tiders took a first round win in the Haughton Tournament with a 67-54 win over the Richwood Lady Rams Thursday night.
"I thought it was our best effort of the season," Lady Tider head coach Jacob Brown said. "I thought we played well throughout the whole ball game, on both ends of the court and in all phases of the game. It was definitely our most consistant game."
The Lady Tiders led 21-12 after the first quarter and 35-25 at the half. Minden out-scored Richwood, 17-9, in the third quarter and then withstood a Lady Rams rally (20-15) in the fourth to get the win.
The Lady Tiders advance to tonight's second round where they will play Ruston High School at 7 p.m. at Bossier Parish Community College.
Ja'Courtney Neloms led the Lady Tiders with 26 points and Tiaga Pugh added 17 points and five rebounds. Anatavia Sterling scored 14 points and Metosh Gill
scored six points, had four steals and four assists. Shabrie Nelson scored four points, pulled down nine rebounds and played well defensively.
"We had some girls come off the bench and play some valuable minutes and we didn't miss a beat," Brown said. "I thought we did a good job managing the game and doing what we needed to do to win the game, including hitting our free throws at the end. I thought Antavia played her best game of the season and Ja'Cortney really played well."
