DOYLINE — It was a battle of the Panthers when Doyline High School hosted varsity games with Stanley High School on Tuesday.
The Doyline Lady Panthers dropped a 49-37 decision, while the DHS Panthers beat Stanley, 67-52.
The Doyline girls jumped out to a first quarter 14-8 lead, but Stanley came back and out-scored Doyline, 20-2, in the second to completely turn the game.
Stanley improved their 28-16 halftime lead to 42-27 by the end of the third quarter. Doyline took the fourth quarter, 10-7, but it was not enough.
Amber Ary led Doyline with 20 points and Chantrell Johnson added nine. Bessie Waller scored seven.
In the boys game, Doyline used a big fourth quarter, where they out-scored Stanley, 20-11, to power to the 67-52 win.
Doyline led 20-10 at the end of the first quarter. Stanley out-scored Doyline, 17-14, in the second to cut the lead to 34-27 at the half. Stanley out-scored Doyline 14-13 in the third, bringing the game even closer, but Doyline took control in the fourth.
Lawrence Hester led Doyline with 19 points, including two three-pointers. Johnnie Hester scored 15 and Donnie Brooks added 14. Justice Lindsey added eight points. Brooks and Johnnie Hester both hit three-pointers.
The Doyline teams will be back in action next week as they take part in the Gibsland-Coleman tournament beginning on Tuesday.
