Editorial is much more valuable than a paid advertisement. Most publications today use freelance writers. That is why the Webster Parish Convention and Visitors Bureau is working to participate in every media tour opportunity. Media tours consist of journalists and editors who write for travel magazines, and it is an outstanding opportunity to showcase our area. Webster Parish hosted four media tours in 2013. Here are a few we hosted recently:
NATJ Media Tour visits downtown Minden in October
On Friday, October 11, the Webster Parish Convention and Visitors Bureau hosted a group of seven professional travel writers during the North American Travel Journalists Convention in Shreveport. These professional journalists toured downtown Minden and then journeyed to Springhill to experience the 30th Anniversary Lumberjack Festival. This was a great opportunity to showcase Minden and Springhill to journalists from all over North America. The tour is a benefit of our longtime working relationship with the Shreveport–Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau and participation in Louisiana North, a regional marketing association.
The NATJ journalists got a real taste of timber sports as they tried their hand at 30th Anniversary Lumberjack Festival.
The Webster Parish Convention and Visitors Commission and Minden Main Street hosted the Holiday Trail of Lights Media Tour on Friday, November 21 which included travel writers for The Houston Tribune, the Dallas Voice and two other publications.
On Sunday, November 24th our office worked with Dave McNamara, host of a weekly show "Heart of Louisiana" broadcast on FOX 8 WVUE TV in New Orleans. In July of this year, we worked with Dave on a production featuring Germantown. This time he is producing a show to air on December 10, featuring Minden as a very special part of Louisiana's Holiday Trail of Lights. We are so fortunate to have Dave showcasing Minden in the other end of our state.
