Knights looking for ‘first’

11-22 sports picSPRINGHILL — The North Webster Knights will host the Caldwell Parish Spartans tonight in a second round Class 3A playoff game.

It's a game that represents a big opportunity for the Knights.

"I told the team that we really have a unique opportunity this week," North Webster head coach John Ware said. "We can accomplish a number of firsts. We can be the first North Webster team to win a home playoff game. We can be the first team to make the quarter finals, We can be the first to win nine ball games. So there's a lot of the line Friday night."

Caldwell Parish comes into the game as the #2 seed in Class 3A.

"They're a real good football team," Ware said. "You can't get to the second round and be 10-1 without being a very good team."

The Spartans run a spread offense and make running the ball a priority.

"They put a lot of pressure on you offensively," Ware said. "We're going to have to come up big on defense."

Ware said his defense has been overlooked this season.

"Our offense was supposed to be good, and it is," he said. "But our defense is underrated. They carried us in last week's game with four turnovers, including three in a row. They've gotten better every week and I expect them to play well on Friday."

Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
