The 2013-14 high school basketball season will start in earnest tonight, as Lakeside High School hosts its annual Don Stahl Memorial Tournament.

This will be the 20th straight year that Lakeside has hosted this event, and this one could turn out to be the best.

"We're real excited about the way the brackets look going into it," Lakeside Warrior head coach Jason Gould said. "We have a number of exciting games and some really good match-ups."

Teams from eight area high schools will take part in the tournament that starts today and runs through Saturday.

Lakeside, Minden High, Doyline, North Webster, Haughton, La. New Tech, Byrd and Haynesville will have teams attending.

"We have Lakeside/La. New Tech, Minden/North Webster, Evangel/Byrd and Doyline/Haughton lined up for first-round action," Gould said. "There are some really tough teams on the boys side, and some good match-ups on the girls' side as well. The girls side is a real tough bracket."

The tournament starts tonight at 5 p.m. with games being played in both the high school and junior high gyms.

"There are some really good early match-ups," Gould said. "The schedule is pretty tough and we're excited that whoever wins the tournament will have to earn it."
