RAYVILLE—The Glenbrook Apaches traveled to Rayville Friday night for a pivotal district match-up with the Raiders of Riverfield Academy.
Despite the Raiders being favored and playing on their home turf, the Apaches came out victorious, beating Riverfield 28-20.
After Glenbrook forced a three and out on Riverfield's first drive, the Apaches took over in Raider territory. Following a short drive, Regan Edwards found Arthur Jones from the two-yard line to put the Apaches on the board first. Jones caught the two-point conversion as well to make the score 8-0 early.
Riverfield would strike back with a touchdown pass of their own to make it 8-7, but Glenbrook went to a trick play on the ensuing kickoff and Dakota Shinall raced 85-yards for the answer making it 14-7.
Riverfield fired back though and tied the game at 14-14 on their next drive. Glenbrook once again would strike back fast, as Edwards found Jones down the field for a 58-yard touchdown pass to regain the lead for the Apaches.
Edwards and the Apache receivers would stay hot with Edwards finding Jacob White this time for the 66-yard touchdown, the last score of the first half.
In the second half, Riverfield was able to sustain a scoring drive against the tough Glenbrook defense, cutting the score to 28-20. Glenbrook threatened to score on their next drive, following nice catches from Jones and Jacob White that put Glenbrook inside the five. However, penalties would move Glenbrook backwards and out of scoring range. Punter, Jacob White, was able to pin the Raiders back inside their own five-yard line.
The Apache offense found the going tougher in the fourth quarter as Riverfield's defense began to stiffen sensing the home loss. With time winding down in the game, Jacob White was in to punt once again. White nailed a booming punt that came to rest at the eigh-yard line, giving Riverfield 92 yards to go for a shot at the tying score.
After Riverfield drove to around midfield, the Glenbrook defense stiffened forcing Riverfield to give the ball over on downs. Glenbrook would get the two first downs they needed to run out the clock, and the Apaches celebrated a big win.
Edwards had a big night throwing for 412 yards and three touchdowns. Jones had 15 catches for 216 yards with two touchdowns. Jacob White added seven catches for 166 and a score. Dakota Shinall, Tristan Sanders, Caden Copeland, and Logan Clark also had receptions for the Apaches.
Defensively, Tristan Sanders led the way with 16 tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery. Spencer White was next in line with 10, Dakota Shinall had eight, Lyle Reagan had seven, Austin Harris and Aubrey Reynolds had six.
Next week Glenbrook will look to clinch a playoff birth with a win over Prarie View Academy at home.
