Busiest Time of Year Kicking Off at Your Chamber

jerriHappy Fall Greetings from the Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce. We are looking forward with excitement to the upcoming events on our calendar.

Nominations are currently being accepted for our Third Annual "15 Under 40" awards. If you know of a young professional, under the age of 40 who is successful in his/her career, active in the community, and who "gives back" in Minden, Sibley, Doyline, Heflin, or Dubberly, please consider putting their name in for nomination. This is a tremendous honor, and a wonderful event. Nominations are open until 4:00, October 11. The dinner and gala will be held Monday, October 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Minden Civic Center.

Leadership Webster is about to kick off in full force with our SIMSOC session on October 9. Anyone interested may still become a part of the 2013-14 class by calling the Chamber before 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8.

I would like to welcome the following new Chamber members: Wise Dancenter, LifeAir Rescue Insurance, Joe LeBlanc Food Pantry, Stone Masters, El Jimador Mexican Restaurant and CW&W Contractors. Thank you for becoming a part of the important work of the Minden-South Webster Chamber.

The Executive Board of the Chamber has opened up the field for nominations for new members to our Board of Directors. If you know of someone who would like to serve on our Board, please contact Jamie at 377-4240 and place their name for consideration. Remember, those persons who serve on the Board of Directors must also be a member in good standing of the Chamber.

The Louisiana Development Ready Community (LDRC) project is in full swing. Our steering committee members are busily collecting data in their respective areas of responsibility. We had a very successful retreat last month at Camp Minden with committee members, concerned citizens as well as Louisiana Economic Development (LED) leaders. At the conclusion of this project, we will have a five-year Strategic Plan for Minden and South Webster. Economic Development will not simply fall in our laps. Through hard work and dedication, as well as this cooperative effort between the City of Minden and the Chamber, we will see jobs and opportunities increase in our area. You may not realize our efforts on the surface, but believe me much is going on behind the scenes to bring jobs and growth to Minden.

The Chamber Board received our three mayoral candidates at its August meeting. Joe Cornelius, Woo Morgan and Tommy Davis were each given five minutes to present their platforms and vision for Minden. We appreciated each of them coming to speak. This is an important election and one that should not be taken lightly. I want to encourage ALL citizens to exercise their constitutional right and obligation to vote on October 19. It is not overstating to express that the results of this election will have a tremendous impact on our business community and the future of our city.
Don't just sit on the sidelines! Outlined above are several ways for you to be involved; nominate, participate, VOTE!!!
