Funeral services for James W. Green, Sr. were held today (Monday, Sept. 30, 2013) at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Minden. Officiating were Rev. Leland Crawford, Rev. Bill Crider and Rev. Steve Gilley.
Interment followed at Hebron Cemetery in Summerfield under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
The family received friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
James was born Jan. 6, 1937 in Summerfield and entered into rest Sept. 27, 2013 in Homer.
He served in the United States Army, retired from the United States Postal service as a rural mail carrier and was an active member of First Baptist Church Minden.
James loved carpentry, building and designing his home and other projects, playing the fiddle, gardening, his machine shop and his camp in Summerfield.
His parents, Melvin and Ethan Green; brother, Rev. Crawford Green; and sister, Melba Coleman preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Green of Minden; son, James W. Green, Jr. and wife, Rini of Homer; stepsons, Tony Davidson of Big Pine, California and Les Davidson of Baton Rouge; brother, Bobby Green and wife, Betty of Benton; sisters, Lois Hill of Castor and Virginia Tarpley and husband, Jerry of Minden; grandchildren, Stuart, Jacob, Jena, Rebecca and Alexis; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bubba Hays, David Tooke, Butch Fielder, Carl Thompson, Steve Cooper and Ken Raca.
Honorary pallbearers were Friendship Sunday School Class.
