Willie David Coleman

Willie Coleman Jr. copyWillie David Coleman was born Feb. 4, 1930 to the late Willie David Coleman, Sr. and Mary Lou Bradford Coleman. Willie, Jr. was the sixth of 13 children born to his parents.

Willie Coleman met and united in holy matrimony to Emmer Shelton. To their union, seven children were born and reared.

Willie Coleman, Jr. was employed and retired from the City of Minden Street Department.

Mr. Coleman departed this earthly life on Sept. 6, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Coleman, Sr. and Mary Lou Bradford Coleman; nine siblings, Odessa Pearson, Cora Lee Scott, Willie Mae Coleman, Beatrice Coleman, Hattie Jones, Lina Lee Benton, Jessie James Coleman, Robert James Coleman and an infant baby girl. He was also preceded in death by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Willie David Coleman, Jr. leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving wife, Emmer Shelton Coleman; two sons, David Coleman (Sharon) and James Coleman (Gail); five daughters, Gloria Wilson (Lannie), Nora Coleman, Jeanette Washington, Mary Coleman (Winford) and Emma Wilson (Jimmy); 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and three sisters, Nora Jenkins, Mary Virginia Martin and Jessie Mae Capers.

Homegoing celebration services for Willie Coleman, Jr. will be held Saturday, September 14 at 2 p.m. at the 14th District Building with Bishop Floyd Pierre officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 13 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the chapel of Kennon's Mortuary with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m. Email condolences may be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
