Sonya Markray was one of the many graduates that were conferred degrees and diplomas during the summer 2013 commencement exercise.
The graduation was held Wednesday, July 31, 2013 in the Bossier Parish Community College gymnasium.
Markray earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Respiratory Therapy and she was pinned during this ceremony by the program director.
Sonya is a native of Springhill and is a class of 1992 alumni of Springhill High School. She worked many years at the Trane Company before it closed. Left without a job, Sonya took advantage of the opportunity to go to school to work towards a meaningful career.
She was reared as a little child in the youth department at Harrison Chapel Baptist Church where Dr. J. C. Goines is the pastor, where she sang in the youth choir.
She is now a member of the Greater New Bethel A.M.E. Church where Rev. Kevin J. Washington is the pastor.
She is a firm believer that God answers prayer and she asked God to enlarge her territory. She has aspirations to relocate to the state of Texas and work in the respiratory therapist field.
Sonya now resides in Shreveport and is the mother of Yurmiyah, who is her motivation. She is the daughter of Mrs. Geneva Markray and the late Jimmy Markray who have inspired her.
