Jesus, having recently returned from His temptation ordeal in the wilderness, had acquired His first several disciples. Along with Him, they were invited to a wedding in Cana. The bride or groom may well have been relatives of Jesus' family since it seems that Jesus' mother had some responsibility at the wedding reception. "And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine" John 2:3. Jesus' poorly understood response did not discourage her in the least. Though she didn't fully understand His mission, she had implicit trust in her son who had been with her for thirty years. As yet He had never performed a miracle, but with the authority of one in charge "His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it" John 2:5.Subscribe to Read!
