Board prepares to open Dozier’s position

STEVE DOZIERIt was business as usual at Monday night's Webster Parish School Board meeting with discussion of the special meeting of Monday, May 13 that addressed the replacement of Superintendent Steve Dozier.

The open position will be advertised in the Minden Press-Herald and the Times of Shreveport with a salary of $120,000 plus negotiables.

"I have a motion to approve the salary of $120,000 plus negotiables," said Jerry Lott, District 11.

The motion was seconded by Vice-President Charles Strong, District 3.

Applicants can expect to see the position open until June 6.

A proposed salary freeze was passed for the 2013-2014 school year.

"I want to thank our teachers for their hard work," said Robert Holloway, District 6. "I want to thank the people in our parish for voting for the sales tax that makes us able to compete with other parishes."

"This is strictly a matter of a limitation of funds," said Lott.

In other business, Secondary Supervisor Morris Busby presented students with awards for Webster Parish Awards of Excellence.

Funds were approved for the bid of $14,984 for a LED sign display at Doyline High School using Doyline Bond Fund.

The following field trips were approved:

North Webster High art students and art club members to visit the galleries and Museum of Art in downtown Hot Springs, Ark. May 22-23.

Minden High School Sports Medicine team to travel to Lake Charles, LA June 9 – 11.

Minden High School Future Farmers of America students to travel with Paul Lacobee to the state FFA Convention in Alexandria, LA June 4-7/school to pay.

Minden High School Future Farmers of America students to travel to FFA Leadership Camp with Paul Lacobee in Bunkie, LA, July 15-18/school to pay.

Changes in personnel include the following.

Interim Assistant Principal Appointment:
Bridget Bridges, Assistant Principal, Doyline High School, effective July 26.

Teacher Retirement:
Daniel Grantham, Teacher, Lakeside Jr. Sr. High School, effective June 22.
Linda Watson, Teacher, Doyline High School, effective May 24.
Dwain Neill, Jr., Teacher, North Webster High School, effective May 23.

Librarian Completion of Contract:
Janet LaBruyere, Librarian, Doyline High School, effective May 21.

Teacher Resignation:
Hollie Swonke, Teacher, Phillips Middle School, effective May 22.
Malinda Powell, Teacher, Brown Upper Elementary School, effective May 1.
 Lee Ann Winkle, Teacher, Lakeside Jr. Sr. High School, May 22.

Teacher Appointment:
David McLaughlin, Teacher, Phillips Middle School, replacing Hollie Swonke who resigned, effective August 8.

Teacher Transfer:
Stephanie Giddens, Teacher, Harper Elementary School, transferring to Librarian at Doyline High School, replacing Fannie Millner who retired, August 8.

Superintendent's Report

Included in the Superintendent's Report was the Central Elementary Principal position. Applications are being taken and interviews will be conducted on May 29.

School board members present were Brandon Edens, Robert Holloway, Jerry Lott, Malachi Ridgel, Johnnye Kennon, Charles Strong, Ronnie Broughton, Frankie Mitchell and Ouida Garner.

Absent were Linda Kinsey and Bruce Williams.

Next board meeting will be June 10 at 5:30 p.m. for Personnel Committee Meeting and 6 p.m. for the regular meeting.
