Tide to close out spring with game tonight 6 p.m. at the Pit
The Minden Crimson Tide will close out their spring practice today with a Red/White game today at 6 p.m. at the Pit.
Tide head coach Randy Peters says the team has had a good spring.
"It's gone very well," he said. "The kids have been excited and their attitudes and work ethic have been great. I've been pleased with where we are as we head into the summer. This whole offseason has gone well. We're bigger, stronger and faster."
Tonight's split-squad game will enable the coaches to get one last look at the players before the summer.
"We're just looking to see who's going to step up and become one of the core guys on our team," Peters said. "We're also looking to see who will contribute some depth to our team, and we want to see how we work together as a team. But mainly we're still evaluating players to see who can do what, and who's better at what position."
Peters says the Tide needs to improve their running game, to help support the passing game headed by quarterback Turner Francis.
"We have got to run the ball better than we did last year," he said. "That itself will help with our passing as well. I think we have a good group of guys on defense that will stop some people and get the ball back for us, so we'll have to capitalize on that."
Peters said the team has performed well this spring, but some players have stood out.
"Turner has really been throwing the ball well," he said. "He looks to be in top form. Also some of the offensive line have gained some size and I like how we look there at this time. On the defensive side of the ball, we have a core of kids coming back with Hutton Leppert, Kyler James, Devodrez jackson and DeAndre Grant so we're confident with those players."
