Congratulations Graduates

Minden val Chase TolandGraduation ceremonies are in full swing around Webster Parish. The following is a look at the top graduates of each high school.

Congratulations to all of these top grads and their classmates!

Doyline High School

Precious Huey is Doyline High School's Valedictorian. She is the daughter of Umekia Huey.

She is Doyline High School's Student of the Year with a 4.0 grade point average.

Huey has been a Girls State Delegate and Trailblazer Delegate.

She plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Monroe and major in Biology (Pre-Med).

Zach Jordan is Doyline High School's Salutatorian. He is the son of Benjamin "Ed" and Sheri Jordan. His grandparents are Ben and Hueylene Jordan and Dannie and Pat Harris.

He has a 3.95 grade point average.

Jordan enjoys hunting, fishing, baseball and is a member of the 4-H Shotgun Team.

He plans to join the Navy after graduation. He also wants to attend college after the Navy.

Doyline High School hosted their graduation exercises Tuesday, May 7 at Minden Civic Center.

Glenbrook School

Lauren Featherston is Glenbrook's Valedictorian.

She is the daughter of James, Jr. and Barbara Featherston. Her grandparents are James and Linda Featherston and Don and Sharon Melcer.

Her academic achievements include having the highest grade point average in her class in the ninth and 10th grades.

She is a member of the National Honor Society and attended State Rally in Geometry, English II, English III and French II where she placed third at state for English II and fourth place for English III.

Featherston is a member of the Quiz Bowl, vice president of the Christian Club and Student Council Chaplain.

She is a Sundancer at Glenbrook and also enjoys painting, hanging out with friends, reading, watching television and surfing the Internet.

Featherston plans to attend Louisiana State University and is undecided on a major.

Karmen Underwood is Glenbrook's Salutatorian. She is the daughter of Mike and Dorothy Underwood.

Her grandparents are Evelyn Beshea and the late Clarence Beshea and Jenette Underwood and the late W.T. and Sharon Underwood.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, and her academic achievements include being on the honor roll.

She is a member of the Sundancers danceline, at Glenbrook.

Underwood enjoys basketball and shooting sports.

She plans to attend University of Louisiana at Monroe this fall to pursue a degree in nursing.

Glenbrook School will have their graduation exercises at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 10 in First Baptist Church Sanctuary.

Lakeside High School

Sam Thrash is Lakeside High School's Valedictorian.

He is the son of Kevin and LaDesa Thrash. His grandparents are Gary and Carolyn Richardson.

Thrash is Lakeside's Student of the Year and is also on the Principal's list.

His hobbies include photography and martial arts.

Thrash plans to attend Louisiana Tech University and major in Engineering.

Ashley Hawkins is Lakeside High School's Salutatorian.

She is the daughter of Mike and Jackie Hawkins. Her grandparents are Betty Hawkins and Lillian Linscomb.

Hawkins is Who's Who in Geometry, Algebra I and French I.

She has attended Literary Rally during her freshmen and senior years and Quiz Bowl, all four years.

Hawkins enjoys playing softball, singing in the Louisiana Baptist All State Youth Choir, mission work, spending time with family and having fun with Heflin Baptist Church Youth group.

After graduation, she plans to attend Louisiana Tech University and earn a degree in Kinesiology.

Lakeside High School will have their graduation exercises at 8 p.m. today in the school's football stadium.

Minden High School

Chase Toland is Minden High School's Valedictorian.

He is the son of Mike and Lisa Toland. His grandparents are Marsha Toland, Robert Lee, the late Larry Toland, the late Bobbie Toland and the late Carol Whitfield.

Toland has been honored with receiving Webster Parish Student of the Year and Minden High Student of the Year.

He has also received the Top Ten Award every year while at MHS, in every subject, including Algebra III.

Toland enjoys playing baseball and golf. He has received the 2013 Academic All-State in Baseball and Golf.

He is a member of First Baptist Church and Lakeview Methodist Youth.

Toland has been a volunteer for St. Jude and Vacation Bible School.

He also enjoys hunting and being with friends and family.

In the fall, he will attend Louisiana State University to major in Biology, with career plans to be an Orthodontist.

Thomas Pevy is Minden High School's Salutatorian.

He is the son of Tracy and Jeannie Pevy. His grandparents are Jerry and Julia Allen and Casciel and the late Floyd Pevy, Jr.

Pevy has a 4.0 grade point average and is Top Ten in Senior Class.

He is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club.

Pevy was the 2012 Boy's State Delegate and 2013 All-State Academic Baseball Team.

His hobbies include baseball, hunting, fishing, swimming, going to the lake and running.
He also enjoys spending time with his friends and family.

Pevy plans to attend Louisiana Tech University and major in Mechanical Engineering.

Minden High School will have their graduation exercises at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, at W.W. Williams Field, Minden High School.

North Webster High School

Kaleigh Cook is one of North Webster's Top Three. She is the daughter of Bubba and Karen Cook. She is the granddaughter of J.B. and Virgie Cook and Jean Norton.

Her achievements include Quill & Scroll, Senior Scholar of the Year, Student of the Year, Principal's List and NWHS Hall of Fame.

Cook has received honors as Academic All-State Cross Country and Track, Composite Team, All-District Cross Country and All District Track-3.200 meter and Javelin.

She is a member of Student Council, Beta Club, National Honor Society and Yearbook Staff.

Cook is also the Mascot for the NWHS Knights.

She enjoys hunting, fishing, softball, cross-country and track.

Cook will be attending Louisiana Tech University and majoring in kinesiology, with a clinical concentration to become an occupational therapist.

Tyler Cox is one of NWHS Top Three. He is the son of Brandon and DeAnn Cox.

He is the grandson of Horace and Jeanita Cox and Carol Hooter.

His academic achievements include a score of 26 on the ACT, maintaining 4.0 grade point average ninth through 12th grades, having an advanced score in Math on Graduate Exit Exam and being

on the Principal's List ninth through 12th grades.

Cox is a member of the National Honor Society.

He enjoys playing drums, listening to music, playing basketball and hanging out with friends.

Cox plans to attend Northwestern State University-Shreveport for a degree in nursing.

Jordan Blair Griffin is one of NWHS Top Three. She is the daughter of Donna Griffin and Brad Nokes. She is the granddaughter of Jean Griffin and Larry and Carolyn Nokes.

Her achievements include Principal's List and maintaining a 4.0 grade point average through high school.

Griffin is a member of the Academic All-State Composite Team-Softball.

She enjoys cheerleading, softball, attending school activities, hanging out with friends, fishing, hunting, water skiing and spending time with family.

Her plans for the future include attending Northwestern State University to obtain a bachelor's degree in nursing.

North Webster High School will host graduation exercises Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at Baucum Farrar Stadium, Springhill.
