Sagging pants lead to drug arrests

Wearing baggy britches and listening to loud music on a public street got a Minden man and his friend in trouble with the law on multiple drug charges.

Trodarion Moore, 20, of the 500 block of Patrick Street, was arrested Sunday for sagging pants, loud music, possession of CDS Sch. I marijuana, CDS Sch. II Lortab and CDS Sch. III Methadone and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Zachariahe Walker, 17, of the 300 block of Shane Drive, was arrested on a felony charge of possession of CDS Sch. I marijuana (second offense).

Police Chief Steve Cropper said around 4:20 p.m., Ofc. Chris Hammontree was patroling on Pershing Street when he saw Moore in his sagging pants.

"The pants were down to his thighs with his underwear exposed," said Cropper. "Moore was leaning against a vehicle that was blaring loud music that could be heard at more than 100 feet."

When Hammontree approached the vehicle, Moore reportedly began walking away from the officer.

Ofc. Danny Turner arrived and detained Moore, while Hammontree talked with Walker, who was inside the vehicle.

"As Walker tried to get out, Hammontree saw him place a white plastic baggie between the seat and himself with his right hand," said the chief.

Once Walker was out of the vehicle and Hammontree conducted a pat-down for officer safety, an object was felt in Walker's pants pocket.

"When he was asked to empty his pockets, Walker emptied every pocket except his right front pocket," Cropper said. "Walker actually had reached in his pocket and palmed the baggie, trying to hide it from the officer."

The baggie was retrieved and appeared to contain approximately two grams of suspected marijuana.

"Walker had a prior marijuana possession charge, which made this one a felony," said the chief.

During a vehicle search following the arrest, officers reportedly located a second bag that contained 29 grams of suspected marijuana.

"During this time, Ofc. Turner and Ofc. Shawn Jenkins were dealing with Moore," said the chief. "As they searched the vehicle, they also found a baggie on the passenger side door where Moore had been standing. It contained four grams of suspected marijuana, one Lortab pill and a Methadone pill."

In the front passenger side floorboard, officers reportedly located a small digital scale.

The two men were booked at the Minden Police Department and transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
