CHOUDRANT — The Lakeside Warriors got an outstanding pitching performance from Payton Johnson and beat Choudrant 8-2 on Tuesday.
Johnson threw 6 2/3 innings of no-hit ball before tiring and allowing a lone hit. The bullpen came in and closed out the game for the 8-2 win.
"It was a real good night for Payton," Lakeside coach Bob Gray said. "He had a no-hitter for most of the way. The two runs charged to him were let in by the pen."
Johnson allowed one hit in 6 2/3 innings, walking three and striking out seven. Luke Griffith came on in relief and got the final out.
Johnson also had a big day at the plate, as he went three-for-four with two singles and a double. Thomas Lambert doubled and tripled and Cameron Corley added a double.
Jake Gray and Josh Prince both went two-for-four and Griffith and Austin Ashley both added singles.
"We're beginning to play much better and things are starting to gel for us," Gray said. "Our bats are coming alive a little bit more and we're not making the crucial errors we were making. We're starting to make the plays and our pitchers are battling, things are looking better."
The Warriors will finish out the week at the Bastrop Tournament. Lakeside will play Oak Grove at 4 p.m. on Thursday, and then will play games on Friday and Saturday.
