Turner Joe "Blue" Ashley was born April 9, 1940 to the late Ms. Ella Garner and the late J. W. Ashley in Ringgold.
He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Springhill CME Church.
On Oct. 8, 1962, he married Fannie Owens. To this union of 22 years, they were blessed with three children.
Blue was a fun-loving person. He loved sports and had many friends.
Blue kept the faith and never gave up. His favorite words were, "If this old body let me."
On Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, God's angels gathered together at LSU Medical Center and called the name Turner Joe Ashley, "Blue," to join His mighty heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill, Henry, Pecola, Bobbie and Willie B.; sisters, Minnie and Lula Pearl; and one great-grandchild, Ferrari Moore.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory a devoted companion, Debra Gipson of Shreveport; two sons, Tommy Williams (Lavina) of Heflin, Timothy Ashley (Quinn) of Fort Worth, Texas; one stepson, Lamarcus Gipson (Danielle) of Shreveport; two daughters, Stephanie McKinsey of Heflin and Nancy Thompson (Micheal) of Arlington, Texas; one sister, Ollie Mae Collins of Ringgold; four half-sisters, Anna Guest, Jerri Robinson, both of Shreveport, Zena Miller of Dallas, Texas and Lois Devereaux of Doyline; his wife and friend, Fannie Ashley of Heflin; 11 grandchildren; eight-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 16 at 11 a.m. at Springhill CME Church, Rev. A. B. Caesar, pastor with Minister Rodney Williams, officiating. Interment will be in Coleman Cemetery.
Visitation will held Friday, February 15 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the chapel of Kennon's Mortuary.
