Town and Country Garden Club hosts final meeting of year

The Town and Country Garden Club held their final meeting of the year on May 10, 2011 at Aiken's Nursery on East King's HIghway in shreveport. President Yvonne Jackson opened the meeting by introducing the speakers from Aiken's Nursery, Joyce O'Hearn and Donna Shield.

Mrs. O'Hearn and Mrs. Shield had examples of more than twenty plants including annual and perennial flowers and shrubs and trees. The ladies gave a description of each plant and where it could best be used in the garden.

The location of placing plants in the garden was stressed as one of the most important considerations when purchasing a plant. Also discussed was pruning, fertilizing, and watering requirements. After their presentation, a question and answer session was held. Many questions were expertly answered. Refreshments were provided by Aiken's Nursery.

Mrs. Jackson thanked the Aiken's speakers and opened the business meeting. Mrs. Fowler stated that Mrs. Jackson led the Town and Country Garden Club by example in that their was always beautifully maintained and welcoming. Mrs. Jackson reminded us that the sign up sheets for next year's meetings are to be completed. Mrs. Jackson presented was presented with a parting gift as this was the last meeting of her term as President. The business meeting was adjourned. The members enjoyed a time of shopping in Aiken's Nursery Gift shop and garden center. The group then enjoyed a lunch at Another Broken Egg restaurant on Line Avenue.
