Leadership Webster program teaches youth

Fifteen future leaders are gaining first hand knowledge into the ins and outs of the parish as they participate in Youth Leadership Webster.

Sponsored by the Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce, Youth Leadership Webster gives the enrolled students a chance to learn about the community, its governments and economy.

"We have students from Lakeside High, Doyline High, Minden High, Glenbrook and the Youth Challenge Program," said local businessman Terry Gardner, who serves as the chamber's instructor for the program. "The program helps cultivate future civic leaders in the hopes they will take what they learn and apply it in the community."

Youth Leadership Webster is an eight-month program. Last week's gathering was the second meeting and focused on the local health care community.

"We toured Minden Medical Center and Meadowview Health and Rehab," Gardner said. "I want to thank both of those organizations for participating and seeing the value of Youth Leadership."

Other areas to be covered include the financial sector, business and industry, judicial and law enforcement, government and economic development. Students will also be attending many of the Chamber After Hours as well as Webster Parish School Board and Minden City Council meetings.

Enrolled participants include Anna Fink, Kelly McFarland, Eleanor Gilbert, Morgan Hanson, Riley Smith, Kaerington Wilson, Karli Loftin, Allison Powell, Austin Snider, Avery Maness, Bryanne Stanberry, Louis Moore, Samantha Townsend, LaDarius Joseph, Leslie Davis and Molly McCann.
